Sir Ronald Cohen
Arriving in the UK with no money and no ability to speak English is an enormous challenge, but Ronnie Cohen was more than equal to the task. He went on to become an innovator in the field of venture capital but now he’s pioneering a new frontier in investment, persuading companies like Tesla to join him in the Impact Revolution, putting social and ecological concerns on an equal footing with profit, and making the fight against climate change the new bottom line.
Growing up as the youngest of six daughters raised by a single mother, Mellody Hobson learned the importance of financial security at an early age. She has taken those lessons and gone on to conquer the world of finance, both as a highly successful asset manager and a board member of some of the world’s biggest companies, while also finding the time to become a hugely effective advocate for diversity in boardrooms and financial literacy in the home, striving to help families make sense of the frequently confusing world of personal finance.
When Warren Buffett was seven years old he would collect thousands of discarded bottle caps to gauge which soda brands were most in demand, then make a killing selling drinks door-to-door. That passion for research eventually led to him becoming known as The Sage Of Omaha, the richest man on Earth with an uncanny knack for spotting the boom stocks while swerving the duds. Now he’s using those skills and resources for good, giving back enormous sums of money to help fight climate change and eradicate disease and poverty.
