We believe there’s a superhero in each of us. True Superheroes celebrates people who’ve overcome adversity, made amazing contributions to society, and inspired others to do the same. Each week we nominate people in different fields. This week we focus on environmentalists.

Dr. Jane Goodall

Dr. Goodall revolutionized the male-dominated field of primatology with novel methods that included assigning emotions to chimpanzees. Over her six decades of research, Dame Goodall redefined species conservation to include the environment, and now her Roots & Shoots program inspires children to change the world.

Jerome Foster II

Jerome Foster held solo climate change protests outside of the White House every week for a year before he was invited indoors. Jerome, 19, is now the youngest-ever presidential advisor, assisting President Biden on environmental justice issues involving low-income communities that face the greatest fallout from climate change and pollution. It’s a daunting task but Jerome has a dream.

Phyllis Omido

Known as Kenya’s Erin Brockovich, this single mother is the driving force behind a landmark $12m court award to shantytown residents poisoned by a lead smelter for recycling batteries. She risked her life to save others. Now Phyllis Omido runs mentorship programs for children to educate them about environmental protection and human rights.
