OpenAI has introduced new physical and digital safeguards in response to growing concerns about foreign espionage targeting its AI models. The company is reportedly implementing stricter access controls for internal projects, moving some development offline, and requiring biometric clearance for specific areas of its offices. The changes follow warnings from U.S. officials about aggressive intelligence efforts aimed at extracting large language model technologies.

Vatican Espionage
Is the Vatican hiding a spy ring?
In the shadows of Rome, behind Vatican walls, a little-known organization referred to as "The Entity" has long been rumored to carry out the Church’s most secretive operations. Initially founded in 1566 as "The Holy Alliance", this sacred intelligence network is said to span centuries and continents.
During the Cold War, its influence reached new heights. In the early 1980s, the Vatican and the Reagan administration formed a covert alliance aimed at undermining Soviet power in Poland. CIA Director William Casey worked closely with Monsignor Luigi Poggi, the Pope’s envoy, laying the groundwork for a joint anti-communist campaign. When Reagan met Pope John Paul II in 1982, their shared mission was already in motion.
Even the KGB tried to infiltrate the Vatican, but they never found "The Entity". Uncover more in this SPYSCAPE article!

More than 40,000 fans packed into Birmingham, England, over the weekend to see Ozzy Osbourne take the stage with Black Sabbath for their final show. Osbourne co-founded Black Sabbath in 1968 and helped define the sound of hard rock and metal. His wild antics, on and off stage, became as legendary as his music. After leaving the band in 1979, he built a chart-topping solo career and found a second wave of fame through reality TV with The Osbournes.
In 1974, Willie Carlin returned to his hometown of Derry, Northern Ireland, just as a brutal sectarian conflict was reaching its peak. Known as The Troubles, the unrest had split the city along political and religious lines, and violence between British forces, Republican paramilitaries, and Loyalist groups was a daily threat.
His work helped pave the way for dialogue between opposing sides. But in a conflict where neighbours became enemies and trust could be fatal, Carlin’s double life came at a cost. Join Willie Carlin on an undercover mission in this week’s podcast selection, 'Blood on the Waterside'.

Infant Malaria Treatment
How do you fight malaria when a patient is just days old?
Swiss regulators have just approved a first-of-its-kind malaria drug for newborns. The dissolvable tablet, called Coartem Baby, is designed for infants as small as 4.4 pounds, and its formula combines two proven ingredients already used in treatments for older children and adults: artemether and lumefantrine.
Developed by Novartis and the Medicines for Malaria Venture, the drug can be administered with breast milk, facilitating easier dosing. Novartis announced plans to distribute the drug on a not-for-profit basis in regions with high malaria risk. Nearly 600,000 people died of malaria globally in 2023, and 95% of those deaths were in sub-Saharan Africa, primarily young children. With vaccines starting at around five months of age, millions of babies remain exposed in their earliest days. This new treatment could help close the gap.
